IHS Tattler – October 2020 Edition

Second Wave

With the passing of the summer season, the onset of fall with longer nights and shorter days and the approaching second wave of Covid-19, interest inonline board gaming has been rekindled. There are rumours of an Axis and Allies group, random unsuccessful inquiries to initiate a game and chatter on messenger of games and glories of the past. And chatter was all it was until finally, the lonely bleatings of Charlie “The Shepherd” Foster were answered by the Royal Fanfare of the King of Catan. Recently returned from the Crusades, the King announced the first fall tournament and 3 hapless souls joined the king in the lists. The results, obvious to even the most ignorant peasant, are below.

The King Of Catan

The results of the first game of the fall tournaments are in and as predicted by this reporter, The King Of Catan, His Royal Highness, Misha the First, One and Only, reigned supreme and defended his King of Catan title. His unworthy opponents, indulging overmuch in revelry prior to and during the match were no match for the sharp blade of The King, fresh from battle in the crusades. Baron Justin, Charlie the Shepherd and the former Prince John, now Sheriff of Nothingham were quickly dispatched and heaved unceremoniously into the moat. For their own good they should have stayed there.

The Second Match

Not satisfied with escaping with their lives and licking their wounds (if not their balls), the 3 vanquished barbarians, filled to the gills with drink and witches potions, had the audacity to assault The King on the following eve. As expected, the 3 fell again to the Mighty King and fled the court ere the Fanfare was completed.

Game 1 Analysis

by The Shepherd
“He pulled from his usual playbook with a constant stream of bleak warnings and fear mongering about handing the win to other players while downplaying his position only to pull out a victory. One minute the propaganda machine is all out convincing us he is our buddy and to extend the game god forbid Justin or John win and selling the idea he is not a threat then the next minute he wins, the trumpets play and we are instantly his lowly peasants again He wins by a combination of skill, luck and a powerful and unrelenting stream of misinformation from his Propaganda department. But I have to admit that it’s a combination that has worked wonders for him.”

Game 2 Analysis

by The Shepherd
“Again when we are settling the island the king is right there with us, trading, talking to us like we are his comrades pretending to be a buddy and all the while seeing to it that we are divided and fear one another. Then when he has his command of the board its suddenly trumpets and in the next days paper more talk from the thrown referring to us as repulsive hordes ”
